Confidentiality and Privacy Policy

I place utmost importance on my client's privacy and therefore all information collected at assessment and throughout the session will be kept strictly confidential and only used by Counselling Today. Any information collected through the web site, online counselling, email or telephone service is also covered within this policy.

Information will not be sold, reused, rented, loaned, or otherwise disclosed to other parties except for use within my supervision, which is also bound by The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework.

Definition of confidentiality:

All information is treated as confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties unless:

• You inform me that you are going to hurt a child – It is my duty to report abuse under The Children Act 1989 (S.47)
• You inform me you are going to serious hurt yourself – I may choose to contact your GP or other health professional.
• You inform me of an act of terrorism – I have a duty to inform under Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005
• You informed me that you make your living from illegal means such as dealing in drugs – It is my duty to inform under The Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986 S27, (as amended by the Criminal Justice Act 1993)

 

In all these instances, I would discuss the matter with you before disclosing to the appropriate authority.
